THE EXPLOSION AND THE BELL
Bells that inform us of the beginning and the end. Bells from which cannons are cast — and cannons from which bells are cast.
Nearby is a plaster cast of the crater left by an explosion. The imprint of absence, of emptiness. The explosion as the beginning and the end.
Both leave behind silence.
Works in the exhibition
Bell and Blast
Bells from church collections of the National Reserve Sophia of Kyiv, plaster casts of blast craters. The bell rang — a mark of beginning and end. The explosion leaves its imprint: plaster cast, negative form of destruction.
Echo
Glass shards from the broken windows of museums in Odesa, Dnipro and Kyiv, and from studios at Nahirna 22, Kyiv — wrapped in drum skin and sewn with surgical sutures. Each fragment carries the address of its origin.
Untitled (video)
A camera moves slowly through the branches of a tree. Printed on each leaf: a number from a missing person notification. The wind stirs the foliage. The camera does not search — it wanders.
